Site-to-Site Blogument on “Classics”
Author’s reply to an earlier post of mine about classics in anime.
I object to the Lodoss comment. It may not suit your fancy, but nonetheless I find it to be an excellent contribution to anime’s fantasy genre. Not Chronicles of the Heroic Knight mind you — that thing was awful. But the original (sans the first episode) was quite a nice look at classic fantasy tropes. I also just plain love Deedlit, and probably always will. Slayers is also a classic of fantasy, though with the comedy bent in place. As far as mid-90’s comedy is concerned with anime, Slayers Next is probably one of the better examples, especially since this was the era that gave us travesties like Dirty Pair Flash.
As for the Gatchaman thing — Yeah, Gatchaman is still with us. I hate to tell you this, but it is. Says why they made a new G-Force comic series not long ago. It may not be Gatchaman proper, but it is certainly a derivative of.
