Doujin Work 01: A Little This Way Please
Well, I decided it was best that I check out Doujin Work, being that things like Zombie Loan and other such shows of the season made me cringe with disgust. Doujin Work’s pretty much up my alley, being based around fandom itself, particularly the convention and comic creation. I know I said I wasn’t doing reviews anymore, but I think with an initial impressions entry, I’ll still need to do one.

Basic impressions? I hate the intro, a lot. The song makes my ears bleed, and I think I’ll be skipping it from now on. The ED is pretty awful too. Not only that, but there’s nothing remarkable about them. The ED is nothing more than a montage of the girls from the rear, and… Well it’s not even decent fanservice. What the hell? Plus both go on for way more time than is necessary, especially considering the episodes are so short. I know it’s based on a 4koma (4 panel comic) format, but you an do a lot better than this for padding.
On the upside, I rather like the humour, and Osana’s pretty cute. The representation of Comiket is rather reserved compared to portrayals in Genshiken and Lucky Star, but that may have something to do with the restricted production values. Characters are animated quite well, but backgrounds seem rather sparse. I did like the creative use of people in the background of the bus during the initial yuri gag however. It’s simple, but really well done.

Osana’s an interesting character already. On the one hand, I think she’s painted in a “sweet” light, where the audience is expected to use her as foil for themselves. But that’s deceptive. Osana needs to be received as somewhat conniving, if not a little naive, and while I’m sure that’s moe points for some fans, I find Osana somewhat despicable. Well, that’s probably too strong a word, but I am all set to dislike Osana. Not in a bad way, but I’m receiving a money grubber here. Perhaps that’s my using her, but that is the initial impression. Justice seems like a complete opposite to her so far, being a more kind and benevolent force at Comiket. Of course… I’m hoping Sora’s his daughter or something. This could become ep. 26 of Excel Saga really fast.

I’ll probably give this one the four-episode benchmark and see if it fulfils expectations.
Show is Andante. Relaxed pacing balanced with quick cuts between scenes due to the time constraints make it on the slow side, but with some instantaneous movement. May become allegro if the pacing picks up. Hard to determine if it’s event-driven or narrative-driven yet.

A money grubber, yes. She is also pretty much a slut. I mean, in manga it took just ONE indifferently voiced offer, to almost make her switch to “lesbo mode”.

o_O Wow. I was thinking she might just have Lina Inverse syndrome, but that’s a little extreme.

what? this shit is hilarious yo. first of all, the intro/ending themes (especially the ending theme, which got a nice beat to it) arent all that bad. the animation is crap, but that means you focus on the dialogue a lot more, which is p. goddamn funny
all in all, this review is shyte and not indicative of the series

Good job being a douche commentator. Not that I mind you people, it’s cheap comedy that I get to giggle at.
I did end up finishing the series and most of my predictions are pretty right. I chose not to blog it however, since Doujin Work was incredibly boring by the midpoint. Its story has been done better and more interestingly by others, and its cast is incredibly difficult to like or follow.
So yes, this review IS indicative of the rest of the series and your opinion is “shyte”.
